A Different Kind of FOMO

A Different Kind of FOMO

@canadaswonderland

You ever sacrifice fun to be a storage locker? A guard dog? The idea seems silly, but we’ve all been guilty of doing it…

I digress.

I was at Wonderland the other week, a theme park located just outside of Toronto and saw this as a recurring theme, or so it appeared.

Let me paint the (..detailed..) picture.

I was on the Yukon Striker…a brand new roller coaster with a 90-degree drop for three breathtaking seconds, staring 245 feet down into an underwater tunnel, reaching speeds of 130km/h and about to ruin what I considered to be a perfectly good pair of underwear. And as I was on the incline to the top, I couldn’t help but notice all the people down below…men, women, teenagers, all looking up with amazement but a few holding backpacks, jackets, purses, cell phones, keys, blah, blah, blah the list goes on. They were clearly deemed the “watcher of valuables”.

I thought to myself, it’s possible these people don’t like roller coasters? Especially this one as I myself just added additional cushioning to my seat and they simply don’t mind hanging back and watching everyone’s stuff? Or, did they draw the short straw and need to stay back because someone needs to watch everyone’s stuff?

It’ll remain a mystery I suppose as I never asked, but then I thought about myself and when else this type of situation has occurred? After all, maybe heights aren’t your thing and Wonderland does have a wonderful selection of beer on tap?

Then travelling down south jumped out at me.

You work hard, save up your money and head down for an all-inclusive vacation with your partner, or friends, family, loved ones etc. You’re sitting poolside and everyone wants to go to the beach, a casual stroll, or a swim in the ocean. But then again, you’re stuck with the question “what about our stuff?”

One person again ultimately opts to hang back, watch the bags, iPads, cellphones, room keys and reads a book. Although the peace and quiet of a book poolside is enjoyable, you’re still missing out on an experience and life’s too short.

So why do we do it? I feel like together we can up our game so we don’t miss out on the little things.

After all, what if Joey wasn’t there to pee on Monicas leg after the jellyfish incident? #Friends
